The learning Resources Centre was launched
simultaneously with the inauguration of the National College of Science
&Technology in 1998.
Presently, all premises of the college are
turned to constitute Dhofar University (DU) including the library, which is
considered to be one of the most imperative pillars of the educational process
in the university and the main source of knowledge for students and researches.
LRC aims at acquainting students, faculty, and staff in the various colleges and
departments of DU about the most up-to-date trends in their different fields of
specializations. This is achieved by providing diverse information sources,
precisely organized and computerized to be easily published and retrieved.
Professional and technical preparation will undoubtedly ensure effective and
efficient accomplishment of the LRC objectives and functions as well as maintain
order and discipline.
The centre is temporarily located in the
underground floor of the Art and Applied Sciences building until the permanent
premises of DU are completely constructed. It consists of the Library and an
annexed hall of twenty personal computers connected to the internet in order to
smooth the progress of research about topics related to the curriculum. The hall
can also be used by students for reading. The library adopts open shelves system
that accelerates reaching required information items by the users.
The library hoards a large variety of
items continually growing in cope with the needs of DH faculties. They can be
categorized as follows :
- Reference
books: the library encompasses over 7, 000
books in both Arabic and English languages.

Periodicals: the
library subscribes to 34 current periodicals and journals in both Arabic
and English languages, in addition to
daily newspapers published in the Sultanate.
At present, the library strives to bring
into its acquisition more books and journals that would definitely increase the
knowledge of the students and expands the learning and teaching process in the
university.
