Acquisition is the process of
providing adequate information sources for the library and the LRC by means of different methods of supply like
purchasing, exchanging and depositing. These resources are
carefully chosen according to a selection policy within a specific
budget that serves the purpose of developing library items and affording better
services for users.
A great deal of emphasis has been given to
enrich the center with a large variety of items and materials by purchasing
from local and international publishers, books fairs and agents, as well as
exchanging gifts.
In order to organize materials and items in possession, the LRC has developed a computerize system locally designed by
Oracle software to meet the needs of the center and to be used for storing and
retrieving information. This system facilitates classification, database
creation, printing service and provides an online catalog for information
queries about any library items.
A- Cataloguing
It is the technical set up and the manifestation of the out features and
contents of the materials in the library. It also deals with preparing special
registers for this purpose according to specific system. These registers are uploaded to the computerized system of the library to
facilitate quick and easy access to information for all users.
B- Classification
In order to organize materials, LRC adopts the American congress library
classification system. Classification is defined
as the process of placing similar things together, i.e. grouping things
according to similarities and differences. Hence, books classification is also seen as the art of discovering the topic of the
book, and labeling it with a symbol in line with the followed classification
scheme of the library. Classification aims at providing the right book to the
right reader through arranging books in to separate categories.
