27 February 2006

Dr. Mohammed Faour               Dr. Riad Chedid

A delegation from AUB consisting of Dr. Mohammed Faour, Vice President of Regional and External Programs in AUB, and Dr. Riad Chedid, professor in the College of Engineering in AUB, recently came to DU. This visit was to discuss the latest changes at DU during its first academic year and to demonstrate technical support for DU in realizing its goals.

The two guests expressed their satisfaction with the current DU academic standards. They were optimistic about its future and its impact on the region and the country in general. Dr. Faour said, “This visit comes under the agreement that dictated that AUB supports DU technically and administratively. There has been a sequence of visits by the AUB academicians to follow up the academic programs here and give technical support, in addition to the existing administrative and academic staff from the AUB who are permanently at DU. Specifically, this trip is to follow up the situation in the College of Arts and Applied Sciences, with regards to my specialization in social work.”

The collaboration between AUB and DU will be ongoing until 2010. AUB is responsible for both the educational programs and the administration. Dr. Chedid declared his satisfaction with the quality of the academicians at DU and said “The faculty of DU is excellent and it includes academicians from many different universities and countries such as America, England and other western countries.” He added, “DU will help improve this area because it will boost many vital sectors such as building, tourism and industry.”  Dr. Faour agreed and added, “Students are enthusiastic about studying at the university because it is made up of both high quality faculty members and administrators.”

Dr. Faour observed the changes that have happened at DU and declared, “I have been with this project since the beginning and I feel proud when I see that it has reached this level in the programs, majors and buildings. Every time I visit, I see improvements and additions in all parts of the university. There is real development every day because the DU project has a strong base.”
