Mr.
Ali Haleeb |
Mr. Ali Haleeb, a Lecturer in the Department of
Computer Science, gave a seminar on the 14th of
May, 2007 in Ibn Rushd Hall, entitled “Philosophical
Implications of Some Digital Logic Design Techniques
and Applications”. He said that “the
deterministic nature of the laws of physics which
was taken to be of unquestionable certainty has
been defied at the beginning of the last century
by the uncertainty principle of Heisenberg and
the relativity theory of Einstein. However, that
uncertainty of Heisenberg and Einstein was accepted
because it was considered to be applicable only
in particular areas and conditions which are far
from our daily life. But, to discover this
uncertainty in what came to be our everyday experience;
in the digital logic design techniques and applications;
is a real challenge that we have to cope with.” The
seminar was about this challenge.
Mr. Haleeb’s topic was of great interest
to the faculty members present, especially in light
of recent news of physicist Stephen Hawking, author
of ‘A History of Time’, who went on
a well publicized trip where he was able to experience
zero-gravity after many years of being bound to
a wheelchair. Physics is a science that is becoming
increasingly important as the study of science
deepens and quickens. It has often been called
the ‘fundamental’ science, since biology
and chemistry, for example, are the sciences that
study systems that have properties based on the
laws of physics. |
