Engineering Ethics
The College of Engineering at Dhofar University added a new course to the College curriculum in the second semester of the academic year 2007/2008.The course is entitled “Engineering Ethics” and is being taught by Dr. Mahaad Shammas, Director of Environmental Affairs at the General Directorate of Climate and Environmental Affairs in Dhofar. Dr. Farid Chaaban, Dean of the College of Engineering, said that engineering is crucial for building a society; therefore engineers have a big responsibility to preserve the dignity of their careers through doing their job faithfully and with high levels of accuracy. Dr. Chaaban added that an engineer’s work affects the lives of members of society in many ways, and that’s why an engineer has to put into consideration this huge responsibility and make it his ultimate goal to work towards people’s safety. Dr. Shammas, who is teaching “Engineering Ethics”, said that this course is very important for students who are majoring in engineering, because it introduces the most basic ethics that they have to apply in the environment. He added that educational institutions are starting to add these courses to their curricula in order to enrich the students’ knowledge in all aspects, especially when it comes to ethics. |
