DU participated in the 2nd International SOLSTICE Conference
at Edge Hill University England, from 10th May
to 11th May 2007. It is one of the leading conferences
in the area of “Researching e-Learning for
Innovation and Development” in the world.
This conference attracted over 165 delegates from
across the UK and around the globe. International
presenters from 28 countries participated in the
conference including: USA, France, New Zealand,
Pakistan, and Oman.
The main focus of the conference was about a dramatic growth in both the inclusion
of and research about e-Learning within higher education. The conference
theme reflected this trend and focused on e-learning’s impact on innovation
and development, be it technological, educational, personal or social.
Dhofar University was represented by Mr. Habib Ullah Khan, faculty member from
the Department of Management, Marketing, and Information Systems in the College
of Commerce and Business Administration. His paper was entitled “Importance
of e-Learning in Improving the Performance of Students in Group Work Activities:
A Case Study”. His research suggested how e-Learning tools can help students
to improve their performance levels in group work activities. The outcomes of
his research also suggested suitable synchronous and asynchronous tools of communication
for highly cultured societies.
Papers covered a wide range of topics during this conference, including the topics
listed below, as well as many more such as e-Learning Research Methods, Methods
in e-Learning and e-Teaching, Technological Innovation for Learning and Teaching,
Impacting on Students’ Learning through e-Approaches and e-Work in
Progress.
