Majlis Ash'shura Election Awareness Team Pays Visit to DU


The awareness team of Majlis Ash'shura

The Awareness Team of the Majlis Ash'shura's 6th Term Elections 2008-2011 Committee, led by H.E Shaikh Ali bin Nassir al Mahrouqi, the Wali of Bidbid, Chief of the Awareness Team, accompanied by H.E Zakia Al Farsi, Advisor to the Minister in the Ministry of Social Development, Mr. Ali Al Jahwari, General Director of the General Directorate of Education of the Dhofar Region and Miss Hanan Al Kindi, Director of Radio Programs, Ministry of Information, paid a visit to Dhofar University. Their visit is a part of the plan of the main Election Committee to conduct visits to various governorates and regions of the Sultanate to enlighten people on the significance of participation in the Majlis Ash'shura election process. The Committee intends to inform students and citizens about the importance of registration in the Electoral Register, something which will enable them to cast their votes in the next election.

In Ibn Rushd Hall at DU, the team gave a lecture entitled ‘The Electoral System in Oman'. They explained to the audience the importance of registration and voting for the coming elections, and also enlightened them on the importance of campaigning, the part of the election process which allows each candidate to introduce himself or herself to the citizens. At the end of the meeting, after the Awareness Committee had fully explained the system, there was a chance for open discussion and queries.
