Signing of Contracts with Companies |
HE Sayyid Ali Bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Minister
of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the
Higher Education Council, was the sponsor of the
laying of the foundation stone ceremony, which
was held on Thursday 2nd of August 2007 on DU`s
land in A`saada Area.
Before laying the foundation stone, HE Sheikh Mustahil
Bin Ahmed Al Ma’ashani,
State Adviser and Chairman of Dhofar University`s Board of Trustees and HE Abdulalim
Mustahil Rakhyot, Chairman of the Board of Directors , signed two contracts for
the initial part of the first phrase of the campus construction along with
the two contractors.
The two contracts included the construction of eight buildings for Administration,
Main Library, College of Arts and Applied Sciences, College of Engineering, College
of Commerce and Administrative Sciences, common classrooms, students’ activities
centre and mosque.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of officials, dignitaries, VIPs,
Sheikhs and university staff. The Ceremony started with the national anthem followed
by verses from the Holy Quran.
In a speech marking the occasion, Shaikh Mustahail said the laying of the foundation
stone of the University campus, coming a few days after the celebration of Renaissance
Day, was made possible by a royal grant from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. He said
the campus was designed to meet international architectural standards as well
as academic requirements for quality education.

Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Sponsor of the Event, expressed his delight
over the laying of the University’s foundation stone. Congratulating
the university’s founders on the speedy development and implementation
of the project, he voiced hope that other beneficiaries of the Royal grant
too would be able to expeditiously take their projects to fruition as well.
The buildings, in the initial part of the first phase of the project will be
constructed on about 60,000 square meters of land.
Constructing a new campus at Dhofar University is considered another milestone
in the history of higher education in the Sultanate. The event, which coincides
with the celebrations to mark the Blessed Renaissance Day, is hailed as a landmark.
The new campus will allow the university to add new undergraduate and graduate
programs.
It will also contribute to developing higher education and equipping the students
with required skills and knowledge.
