Dhofar University took
part in the conference entitled 'Knowledge
Society: The Social, Cultural and Linguistic
Challenges in the Arab World Today and Tomorrow'
which was arranged by the College of Arts and
Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University
and held from the 2nd to the 4th of December,
2007, on the SQU campus. The conference aimed
to encourage the exchange of knowledge as well
as scientific and linguistic research and information.
It gave the participants a chance to determine
and discuss the cultural, linguistic and social
challenges that are facing the Arab world in
of the era of the 'knowledge society'.
The conference itself was divided into six parts, all under the title of 'Knowledge
Society Issues', and were as follows: 'Family, Society and Development', 'Language,
Literature and Teaching', 'History, Geography and Archeology', 'Media, Information
and Tourism', 'Philosophy, Culture and Arts', and 'Projects and Experiments'.
As each part of the conference took place, each of the subjects were discussed
in depth in order to examine not only the challenges that Arab communities are
currently facing but the importance of the continuous development and exchange
of knowledge in each field. The mission of the conference was described as an
attempt to provide a meeting place for scientists, researchers and experts to
discuss the cultural, linguistic and social challenges within the Arab world
in order to share their experiences by presenting new studies and scientific
research. Those theoretical and practical studies and experiments will help the
participants to increase their acquaintance with social knowledge and will enable
them to discover, analyze and solve problems. DU was represented at the conference
by Dr. Amar Almasude, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education in the
College of Arts and Applied Sciences. Dr. Almasude said that he felt that the
conference had presented a good chance for DU to become more involved in the
pressing issues that had been discussed. He added that in attending conferences
such as this, DU itself would benefit from the exchange of the knowledge and
information in such an elite setting. |
