Public Relations Course at Dhofar University

On August 12th, the Continuing Education Center (CEC) at Dhofar University launched a course on Public Relations for the staff of Oman Telecommunications Company and staff of the office of Information and Public Relations at DU. Mr. Eltayeb Elfeel, Director of the CEC, said that the aim of this course was to provide the participants with background information on the nature and concept of public relations and the development of performance in the exercise of its various activities, while focusing on developing the creative and innovative skills in public relations activities.

Mr. Maawya Ahmed Hussein, lecturer in the College of Commerce and Business Administration,  said that the main topics covered in the course were the concept of the public relations career and its role in achieving the organization's objectives as well as the organizational situation of the public relations department and its relation to the administrative management. He said that he was working on teaching the participants the importance of planning activities in public with innovative thinking and showing them how to develop the skills of a public relations officer, both inside and outside the organization. He emphasized the meaning of effective communication in public relations and interpersonal skills with others, including interactive communication and negotiation skills, effective public opinion and its concept, skills of media follow-up and the identification of human behavior and what stimulates human directions. Finally the participants were taught the skill of how to solve employee and customer problems.

The CEC director, Eltayeb Elfeel, said that this course was held from the 12th to the 25th of August, 2007 and was among the many programs prepared by the Center which aimed at developing the skills of the targeted groups of workers in all sectors.
