DU Engineering Students Win Awards

Students from the College of Engineering at Dhofar University took part in the 4th Engineering Students Gathering, which was held from April 4th to 6th at Sultan Qaboos University, and came away with a prize for ‘The Best Relevance to Society’ project.  The project, created by student Muna Aideed and presented by students Hani Al Samadi and Alawi Al Ghassani,  is a digital interpretation of the Omani Sign Language book, which is used in Omani schools to teach children with special needs. The event was attended by a group of students and a faculty member, Mr. Khaled Adam, who was also the supervisor of  Muna’s project.  Mr. Khaled said that the Gathering had been interesting for both himself and the students who attended, since there were exhibits from universities and colleges from all over Oman as well as from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

During the same week, the College of Engineering took part in the Graphic Design Exhibition at the 11th Student’s Gathering at the College of Applied Sciences in Salalah, which was held on April 5th and 6th. Nine framed or mounted  pieces of art were entered into the competition by the Department of Graphic Design and Interior Architecture, on behalf of Dhofar University. The entries won the second overall prize in the exhibition for DU. Prizes were also awarded to two students for their work. Student Khulood Al Yafai won the first prize in the category of ‘Best Graphic Design’, while student Aziza Al Mahri won the first prize for ‘Best Drawing’. Mr. Mohammad Abdul Jabbar, the Chairperson of the Graphic Design and Interior Architecture Department, visited the exhibition, along with GDIA students, and said that he had been proud of the caliber of the work of the DU students.
