Start of Classes at the Dhofar University 
60 new students from 19 nationalities from around the world studying at the University of Dhofar

 

Continued Acceptance and Registration of New Students in the Colleges of Dhofar University

 

The University Council at Dhofar University decided to extend the registration until next Wednesday in response to the increasing demands.  On the other hand, the newly enrolled students at the University of Dhofar completed their registration procedures for the second semester of the academic year 2010/2011 in the various disciplines offered by the three colleges of the University: the College of Arts and Applied Sciences, the College of Commerce and Business Administration and the College of Engineering.  Classes for the second semester began on Saturday, February 19, while  the new students, including the students enrolled in the Foundation Program, complete their registration process during the Drop and Add period, which continues until February 23, 20.


Enhancing the academic level of students
Dhofar University has completed all necessary measures, including the registration of new students and conducting placement tests to measure their levels in the English language, mathematics, and information technology. The University has a specialized center for IELTS that was inaugurated last year and it has established at the beginning of this academic year A Leaning Support Center for students that help them in different areas of their studies, most importantly learning English and computers and the Center has ambitious plans to extend its services to all other courses at the university. A guide was distributed to the new students showing the steps in the University registration system, which made student registration simple and easily.   The University adopted new methods of organization for welcoming new students and answering their questions that eliminated any congestion or confusion.

 

 19 Nationalities

It should be noted that more foreign students have applied to register at Dhofar University and that students with a Pakistani nationality constitute the majority.  The number of students at Dhofar University is over 2200 students belonging to different disciplines.  According to most recent statistics, the number of non-Omani students enrolled at the University is on the increase and this semester alone more than 60 new students have joined the University, increasing the number of nationalities to 19 from around the world: Indian, Pakistani, Australian, Bangladeshi, Canadian, Egyptian, Emarati, British, Indonesian, Malaysian, Jordanian, Palestinian, Lebanese, Sudanese, Sri Lankan, Syrian, Tanzanian, Yemeni and  Filipino.
