DUCAB Seminar at DU

 A step forward towards collaboration and liaising with industry

 

 

New channels of collaboration between Dhofar University and industry were initialised by this step of bringing industry to academia on 17th May 2011. Dr Heba Hassan, an Assistant Professor at ECE department, College of Engineering, invited a team from DUCAB company to give a talk at DU. DUCAB is a leading international cable manufacturing company established in 1979, and jointly owned by the Government of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The company has supplied cables to major landmark projects such as Atlantis, the Palm, Burj Al Arab, Burj Khalifa, Dubai metro, Delhi metro, etc. An open invitation was emailed to DU community, as well as professionals in the field at Salalah College of Technology who were also keen to attend.

DUCAB guests were Engineer Hassan Omar, General Manager-Technical and Quality, Mrs Rohini Bhattacharyya, Technical Manager, and Engineer Nawaf. The seminar was given by Engineer Hassan Omar, who briefed the audience on DUCAB profile, the steps of cable manufacturing process, cable design criteria in addition to testing and quality assurance steps before product dispatch. The presenter discussed new technologies such as high-voltage cables or green cables, which are considered to be an idea towards the future of a clean environment.

The seminar attracted the attention of audience who approached 100 including interested faculty with a majority of students, specially those attending electrical power engineering related courses. Questions raised by students were much appreciated by the DUCAB team, who answered their questions in full and added to the information of both faculty and students. The meeting was concluded by exchanging souvenirs of Dhofar University and DUCAB, and pledges to continue working on strengthening their future relations.
