Dr. Pamela Raburu attends a Conference in UK

8th International GEA Conference (27-29th April) Exeter University, UK.

The GEA Conference focuses on: encouraging teaching, learning, research and publication on gender and education. It also aims to provide a source of expertise and knowledge for policy makers and create networks to facilitate the exchange of information among those working in academia

I presented a paper on the 28th April, which examined and highlighted the under-representation of women Professors in Higher Education and within academia. The paper further explored those factors (intrinsic and extrinsic) that have motivated women to join academia despite family, cultural and structural challenges. Strategies used by those interviewed to reach and keep within academia included; research and publication, time management skills, effective teaching, networking, and professional and academic identity.

Following a successful presentation, I have been invited as a key speaker to another conference on Children’s Cognitive and Behavioral Development – Indonesia University of Education in July 2011(fully sponsored).

I would like to appreciate and thank Dhofar University for sponsoring me to the Conference at Exeter.
