DU Faculty Member Reaps Medals in Malaysia

DU would like to announce that Dr. Wisam Fahmi Al-Azzo, a faculty member in the College of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been awarded two medals from Malaysia. The first medal is a gold medal, received from the research and innovation exhibition held in the well known and long established research University Putra Malaysia (UPM). The second medal he was awarded is the bronze medal, from the Malaysian nation competition exhibition, Malaysia Technology Expo 2011, for excellent research. The research is a collaborative work between Dhofar University, represented by Dr. Wisam, and the research group at UPM in Malaysia. The output of the research serves, in general, the applications of wireless communications and in particular the transmission of multimedia contents through a wireless channel, e.g. video signals over mobile channels. The research output offers a simple, new implemented solution with significant improvement to the problem of noise, the dominant signal impairment in wireless communications. Consequently, portable devices, e.g. laptops and cell phones, are the most expected devices that can benefit from the proposed technique for the 4G networks of multimedia rich communications services. Finally, the registration of the research as a patent in Malaysia and in USA is now under process for royalty protection.
