The visit included a number of meetings attended by Prof. Dr. Bassam Jubran Acting Vice Chancellor, the Deans of the Colleges, Head of Departments and Directors of non-academic Departments and support services. Dr. Jubran reviewed the university’s most important achievements at various levels, indicating that the initiatives undertaken by the University during the last period were designed to overcome difficulties, increase the effectiveness of the university, and find mechanisms to enhance the institutional work.
With regard to
the process of transition to the new campus, the Acting Vice Chancellor
said it was carried out according to plan, with great effectiveness and
participation of the academic community as a whole, praising the efforts
of the technical staff in charge of managing the project and the
contractors. With regard to the initiatives undertaken by the
University, the Acting Vice Chancellor indicated that the university
added rest areas for students in the open areas in the colleges, put
traffic signals and signs to facilitate the movement within the campus,
installed wireless internet throughout the university and encouraged
students to make use of it, and developed bylaws for distribution and
publishing university news. Dr. Jubran spoke also about the initiatives
undertaken with regard to the colleges, units, academic programs,
students, issuing bylaws, policies and procedures, and the formation of
committees to develop career ladders, training of personnel and
development of a manual for each administrative unit to organize its
work and strengthen institutional mentality. He added that a committee
was formed to develop detailed regulations to promote institutional
effectiveness and help determine responsibilities, giving more powers to
the deans, department heads and directors of departments through the
application of these regulations. He also said that work is under way
to develop a new strategic plan for the University with the
participation of a large sector of the faculty and other employees,
taking into account the new developments and the new university campus,
and adding that the new plan will include a mechanism for its annual
application and follow-up operational plans in light of the budget. The
Acting Vice Chancellor asserted that in the near future he will be
developing scenarios for a strategic plan for marketing, promotion and
increase in the number of students at the university for the next five
years.
