A Poetic Operetta on the occasion of the National Day DU Celebrated the 38 th Omani National Day
Under the patronage of HE Ahmed bin Ali Abdullah Al-Amri, consultant of the Technical Affairs in the office of the Minister of State and governor of Dhofar, the cultural and theatrical Office of Student Affairs and University of Dhofar presented a dramatic poetic operetta at the university temporary premises on Wednesday, 19 th of November 2008. Mr. Ahmed Ma'roof Al-Yafai, Principal of cultural and theatrical activity in the Office of Student Affairs, told us that the ceremony included a speech by Prof. Muhammad Fauor, DU Vice Chancellor, and a speech by Ms. Wathiqa bint Abdullah Bait Saeed, director of the Office of Students Affairs. Then they played a film that showed the most important achievements of the Omani renaissance and especially the educational achievements. In addition to the main part of the ceremony which was a dramatic poetic operetta, the operetta expressed the rising of the Omani Renaissance and the development that the Sultanate witnessed since His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said came to power. The idea was embodied in a small town witch suffered a lot of poverty before the 70s until the rising of the Omani renaissance. Mr. Ma'roof added that DU used to celebrate this occasion annually but the ceremony this year represented a new idea which was embodied in a significant participation of the students. He wished that the audience liked the operetta which was a simple expression of appreciation for HM for all what he did, is doing and will do for Oman . |
