Appointment of Dr. Hassan Kashoob Acting Vice Chancellor of Dhofar
University and New Deans for the Colleges

The
Board of Trustees of Dhofar University approved recently the appointment
of Dr. Hassan Said Mahad Kashoob, Acting Vice Chancellor of Dhofar
University. Dr. Kashoob is the first Omani Acting Vice Chancellor and
he has a distinguished record in teaching and research in addition to
twelve years of experience in the administration of institutions of
technical teaching. He completed his postgraduate studies in the United
Kingdom where he received a Ph.D. in translation from the University of
Glasgow in 1995 and since that time until his appointment as Acting Vice
Chancellor of Dhofar University he served as Dean in four Colleges of
Technology in the Sultanate: Ibra, Salalah, Almasnaa and Shnas. He is
as an active member in many committees and in professional associations
including the Association of GCC Deans where he is Oman’s Representative
and the Oman Accreditation Council (OAC). He participated in numerous
seminars for professional training and presented papers in many
International Conferences on various aspects of teaching and management.
Dr.
Bilal Akash Dean of the College of Engineering at Dhofar University
The
Board of Trustees of Dhofar University also approved the appointment of
Dr. Bilal Akash Dean of the College of Engineering at Dhofar University.
Dr. Akash obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Southern
Illinois University in 1992. He was promoted to full professor in
Mechanical Engineering in 2003. During his 19 years of academic
experience he worked in various universities; they are King Faisal
University (Saudi Arabia), Hashemite University (Jordan), University of
Qatar (Qatar), and Applied Science University (Jordan). Dr. Akash is the
author and coauthor of more than 90 papers in international journals and
conferences with a Scopus h-index of 15. His work includes thermodynamic
analysis of internal combustion engines, combustion, pyrolysis,
liquefaction of solid fossil fuels, heat transfer, energy analysis and
engineering systems, solar distillation, renewable and alternative
energy desalination. Currently, he is the editor-in-chief of the
International Journal of Thermal and Environmental Engineering. Also, he
is an editorial board member of International Journal of Mechanical &
Materials Engineering and Jordan Journal of Mechanical & Industrial
Engineering.
Dr. Manuchehr Eirandoust Dean of the College of Commerce and Business
Administration
The
Board of Trustees appointed Manuchehr Eirandoust Dean of the College of
Commerce and Business Administration. Dr. Eirandoust is a Swedish
national of Azerbaijani origin. He gained his MA and Ph.D degrees in
Economics from Uppsala University and Gothenburg University, Sweden. He
was appointed to the post of full professor at Örebro University,
Sweden. After living for 30 years in Sweden, he accepted a full
professorship position and the headship of the Department of Economics
and Finance at the UAE University in 2007. Dr. Eirandoust also served as
an acting dean for the college of Business and Economics at UAEU for a
short period. He received two pedagogical prizes in Sweden: one was a
pedagogical scholarship awarded by Örebro University and the other was
awarded by the student federation at Örebro University. He has
published around 40 articles in high-ranked international refereed
journals. Professor Eirandoust has been the World Bank consultant and a
senior economic advisor to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs in the
UAE. He was a visiting scholar at the University of St. Andrews in
Scotland.
Dr. Fouad Chedid Dean of the College of Arts and Applied Sciences
The
appointment of Dr. Fouad Chedid was also approved by the Board of
Trustees of Dhofar University. Dr. Chedid received his B.S. degree in
Physics from the Lebanese University in 1982, M.S. degree in Computer
Science from the University of California, Riverside, in 1987, and the
Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of
Technology, Chicago, in 1990. In Sept. 1990, he joined Temple University
(Tokyo campus) as an assistant professor of computer science and became
an associate professor in May 1996. In Oct. 1996, he joined the
department of computer science at Notre Dame University (NDU) in Lebanon
where he was promoted to a full professor in Oct. 2003. At NDU, he
served as Chair of the Department (1997-2001, 2008-2010), Associate
Director of the NDU Shouf Campus (2001-2003), and Chair of the Sciences
and Engineering Programs (2003-2008). His current research interests are
in parallel and distributed computing and systems and algorithmic
information theory. He served on the program committees of many
international conferences and on the editorial boards of a number of
international journals. Dr. Chedid has co-authored five textbooks in
computer science and has published over 40 single-author journal and
conference papers. This year, Dr. Chedid is on the very prestigious
program committee of Ray Solomonoff 85th Memorial Conference. |
