A Lecture on the Six Thinking Hats

(Edward De Bono) presented by the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning

Audience

Dr. Basma Faour CTL Director

Dr. Basma Faour, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Dhofar University presented on January 18, 2010, a lecture entitled “The Six Thinking Hats” at the Royal Air Force of Oman, Salalah. The Six Thinking Hats is a powerful technique that helps individuals and institutions look at important decisions from a number of different perspectives. It does so by moving away from traditional ways of thinking to help individuals and organizations understand the full complexity of the decision, and spot issues and opportunities. This is done by using six different thinking strategies for which each hat and its color symbolizes the type of thinking required. Dr. Faour discussed with the participants, the types of hats, the questions that each addresses, and the benefits of using them.  She also engaged the participants in some critical and thinking activities. A large number of participants along with the “Chief officer of the base” attended the lecture. This lecture comes as a part of DU’s mission towards excellence in community service.
