In the progress of work towards the recognition from the Oman Accreditation Council, DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Fouar, held a meeting, in which the Self Study Portfolio was discussed. Prof. Fouar started the meeting by thanking all those who participated in study where he talked about the university and the importance of the study.

Dhofar University is not just an institution of higher learning in a remote location in the Sultanate of Oman; rather, it is a promising project of social and economic development in a region that is undergoing dynamic change after decades of lethargy and under-development. Despite its very young age, DU has succeeded to place itself firmly on the map of higher education in Oman . DU is creating its niche in few academic programs, notably Arabic for non-speakers of the language, Dr. Fauor said. He added "I strongly believe that this self-study portrays the real status of our university as envisioned by stakeholders. Substantial improvement in quality has taken place since the university's opening in September 2004, but there remains more to be done. DU is the first local private education institution that represented this kind of study".

Dr. Fauor talked about the expected visits of the trail audit in February and the Academic Accreditation Commission. He also talked about the committees of the study, the risk management and what kind of risks faced these committees and the teaching quality in the university.

Then the floor was opened for questions by academic and non- academic staff and then the meeting was concluded.
