Summer Club Program for School Students

Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ibrahim Najjar, visited the students who are participating with the Center for Continuing Education in their classrooms accompanied by Mr. Alfeel Altayyib, Director of CEC and Mr. Ali Almaalam, Director of the Office of  Information and Public Relations.  As an original Dhofari experiment where for the first time grades 11 and 12 students come to study at DU for the summer from all over Dhofar province and other parts of the Sultanate.  All their expenses are paid by companies who support the idea of bringing high school students to study at DU English, Math and IT in preparation for their university education.  The experience is enriching for the students on all counts: they meet new friends from different parts of the province and learn English in a state-of-the-art environment.  Dr. Najjar met the students and observed the way they are taught in the classrooms.  He said that it was exhilarating to see Omani teachers who some of them have graduated from Dhofar University teach Omani students from different schools in the province using English as a medium of instruction.  Students were very happy to be given this opportunity to learn,  prepare for university work and meet friends.  The number of students both male and female is 250 selected according to rigid criteria.  The best and distinguished students will be recognized at the graduation ceremony at the end of the summer program and all participating students will be given certificates to be used for their future academic learning.  The Acting Vice Chancellor thanked all the organizations supporting this program and the organizers, especially Mr. Tayyib Alfeel and Mr. Ali Almaalum.  He hoped that this experience will come to good fruition and that it will be repeated next summer with more students and faculty participating in it.
