- Mohammed Faour, DU Vice Chancellor:
DU aims at serving the community and strengthening the ties between the university and its surroundings from the educational, cultural, social and economic institutions.

- Ali AlJahouri:
The ministry aims at building the learner’s character on bases of awareness, maturity and perfection to help progress the homeland.

- Hussein Aidrose:
This honoring is for the sake of those who give education what it deserves and of those who wish to do their best to catch up.
The distinguished students:
Supporting the school environment and the home environment as well as hard work play their role in achieving distinction.

Yesterday morning DU, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Education in Dhofar Governorate, celebrated the honoring of more than 400 distinguished students in the academic year 2008- 2009 on the theater of the General Directorate of Culture and Heritage in Dhofar Governorate under the patronage of His Excellency Mohammed Bin Hamdan Bin Suleiman Al Tobi, Counselor of the Ministry of Education and with the presence of Ali Al Jahouri Director General of the General Directorate of Education in Dhofar Governorate, the honored members of the Government, their excellencies members of Shura Council, DU vice chancellor as well as the deans and the directors in DU, General Directors of governmental and private institutions, heads of parents associations in Dhofar and school managers in addition to the distinguished students together with their parents.
The celebration topics were presented by a group of Dhofar students: Khaled Bin Awad Muqaibel, Adnan Bin Suheil Bin Saeed AlMamri from the school of Dhofar for the post basic learning and the students Fatema Bint Mohammed AbdulAziz AlYafi and Naseen Bint Awad Ahmed AlYafi from the school of Khawla bint Hakin for Public Education.
The celebration started with a recitation from the Holy Quran by a student, Adel Bin Mohammed Saeed AlAmri from Anan Bin Malek School. This was followed by a speech by Hussein Bin Fadl Aidrose on behalf of the General Directorate of Education in Dhofar Governorate in which he said:
It is great pleasure to welcome you this blessed day to congratulate you from the depth of our hearts for the excellence you have achieved and we look forward for more achievements. He added that: when we honor the distinguished students we express our pride of them and they deserve this honoring because of the great efforts they exerted to achieve excellence. It does not escape me to mention the parents’ efforts that look after their sons and daughters and those efforts exerted by the heads of the parents associations. Concluding his speech, Hussein Fadl thanked DU, staff and employees, on top of them Prof. Dr. Mohammed Faour, the Vice Chancellor, for their patronage of this celebration.
The honored students had the chance to express their delight in being honored in this celebration. On their behalf, a distinguished student, Iman Bint Mohammed AlMashani, from Sayeda Mezoon School gave a speech in which she said:
‘In an atmosphere of happiness and delight we meet today on an occasion where the distinguished students are honored. Thanks go to the parents without home we would not achieve this distinction’. She added: ‘The ministry of Education represented by the General Directorate of Education in Dhofar is committed to offer all possible services and facilities to all students to achieve the best levels. We are sure that they are happier than us today and I like to thank our teachers and those in charge in the Ministry of Education and the heads of the parents association for their continuous help and support to achieve excellence and more progress to this country under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, God bless him.
To make the celebration perfect, poet Sheikh Said Bin Mehdi Al Shashai, expressed his happiness in a poem in which he congratulated the honored students and expressed how proud of them we are.
The poem was followed by a drama sketch about academic distinction in harmony of what His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed believes regarding the education sector in the Governorate. The sketch expressed the role of the parents and the role of knowledge awareness applied in Dhofar schools. The sketch was presented by students from Al Badae School with participation from Al Qof School for Basic Learning.
Concluding the celebration, His Excellency Mohammed Bin Hamdan Bin Suleiman Al Tobi, Counselor of the Ministry of Education distributed the prizes and the appreciation certificates to the distinguished students and schools at the Governorate level.

We support academic distinction

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ali Faour, DU Vice Chancellor, says: ‘DU, since its establishment, has been playing a pioneering role in looking after the distinguished students in the schools of Dhofar Governorate. This is part of the university message which aims at serving the community and strengthening the ties between the university and its surroundings from the educational, cultural, social and economic institutions. Honoring the distinguished students is a faithful rendering of his Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed desire to achieve quality in teaching.
DU Vice Chancellor also adds that we are today honoring those distinguished students not only to express our gratitude for the efforts they have exerted but also to express our appreciation of distinction and innovation which constitute the base for any progress; those distinguished get strong support from both the private sector and the government and we thank God because the leadership in this country is doing its best to progress the renaissance procession steadily and firmly.
Prof. Faour also adds that this ceremony is an appreciation and honoring to our students and their parents as well as teachers because the success of the pedagogical process can only be achieved if all of them collaborate. He concluded his speech by congratulating everyone on this occasion: Blessed be those hands, minds and hearts that participated in the distinction of the honored students with best regards from the head and members of the council of trustees, DU staff and students and from me personally to all our distinguished students wishing them more distinction.
Scientific Bases

Ali Bin Hameed Al Jahouri Director General of the General Directorate of Education in Dhofar Governorate says:
The respected Ministry of Education when it aimed at developing education in this country aimed at building the character on bases of awareness, maturity and perfection to fulfill the aspirations of the leadership to achieve progress and development in education. He adds that I cordially congratulate the distinguished students for the success they have achieved in the year 2008- 2009 in the different levels and tell them that nothing can be achieved without hard work.
Concluding his speech, he thanked DU for its continuous support for the students and honoring these elite is one of the fruits of this support; I wish DU all progress and prosperity.
Honoring Excellence and Innovation

Amna Al Awadi says:
Honoring the distinguished students plays a vital role in encouraging excellence and innovation in harmony with the message of the General Directorate of Education in Dhofar Governorate. This celebration embodies the obvious meaning of the cooperating efforts between the educational institutions for the youths of the nation to achieve the best levels. It is the right of every student who worked hard to be honored; something which motivates others to continue in the way of distinction.
Concluding her speech, Amna Al Awadi says: the honoring program coincides with the happiness we see in the eyes of our students. This is apparent through the different topics they present to enliven the spirit of learning and education in them. Thanks go to DU for its efforts in making the delighted celebration successful.
Within the framework of the arrangements for the celebration, Amal bint Abdullah Al Awadi, Assistant of the Public Relations Manager in DU, says: the office of Information and Public Relations took the responsibility of directing the celebration in a way that suits the distinguished nature of the relationship between DU and education in Dhofar in honoring students for the 6th time. She adds that the Office of Information and Public Relations prepared leaflets and brochures needed for the celebration like posters and the celebration booklet as well as the design of certificates for students and the organizing committee. It also carried out the media coverage for the 2nd year respectively and made many interviews with students and parents and with a number of families in the different schools.

Basic Learning in the Governorate

The first batch of the basic learning students was honored in the Governorate. Basic learning aims at developing the learner’s character comprehensively according to the Islamic doctrine and the basics of the national Omani identity in addition to the plantation of national, Arab, Islamic and humanitarian belonging in the learner in order to increase his ability to interact with the world around him. Basic learning also aims at providing the learner with the needed skills in life like those of communication, self learning and scientific thinking. Other aims of basic learning are to make learners understand the value of work and production as well as participation in social life and being able to adapt to modernization to deal consciously with issues and to maintain the environment to exploit its resources and finally to use spare time effectively.

Honoring distinguished schools in scientific excellence

Al Nahda School for Basic Learning occupied the first place in scientific distinction for stage 12 (females) for the first semester of the academic year 2008- 2009 in Dhofar Governorate. Kawthar Bint Saeed Bin Salem Al Ansi, the school principal, said: ‘It is difficult to express our happiness while honoring the distinguished students; we witness the threshold of graduating the first batch in basic learning. I congratulate our students and their parents and I highly evaluate the role of the General Directorate of Education on top of which is Ali Bin Hamid Al Jahwari, the director general, as well as all the staff.
Dhofar School for the post basic learning occupied the first place in scientific distinction for stage 12 (males) for the first semester of the academic year 2008- 2009 in Dhofar Governorate’. Mohammed Bin Alawi Saleh Ba Omar, school principal assistant said congratulated the honored students and wished them all the best.
Al Haq school in the mountains occupied the first place for stage 12 (males) for the first semester of the academic year 2008- 2009 in Dhofar Governorate. Ahmede Bin Musallam Al Mashani, school principal said: ‘the ministry of education in the Sultanate is doing its best to improve learning in all Governorates and in Dhofar Governorate in particular. This is because of the ministry’s desire to have a well educated generation. Here I stress the importance of cooperation between schools and homes to achieve innovation and distinction and to implant loyalty to God, homeland and the Sultan. We look forward for more development under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, God bless him.
Al Saada School occupied the first place in scientific distinction for stage 12 (females) for the first semester of the academic year 2008- 2009 in Dhofar Governorate’. Maryam Bint Mohammed Ismaeel, the principal, said: “on my behalf and on the behalf of the members of the admintrative and teaching staff in the school I congratulate the distinguished students and I can say that dreams turned true today as a result of persistence and hard work. I highly evaluate the role of the supporting families to provide the suitable atmosphere for distinction. We look forward for more development under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, God bless him.

The best Students

In Khawla Bint Hakeem School (females), student Heba Najah Ahmed Ibrahim Jundi occupied the best student. She expressed her delight by saying that this is a bless from God first and a result of hard work and persistence. Thanks go to my family for providing the needed atmosphere. The same opinion was expressed by her colleague Iman Bint Mohammed Al Mashani From Mazon School for Basic Learning who occupied the first place in stage 12 in Dhofar Governorate for the academic year 2008- 2009.
Zuha Abbas Al Zubaidi, who occupied the 4th place in stage 12 in Dhofar Governorate for the academic year 2008- 2009, Al Nahda School, says that this is the gate through which I have wished to pass from to embody my aspirations and the aspirations of those who wish to see me in the best ranks.
Awad Bin Ahmed Al Shanfari, who occupied the 2nd place in stage 12 in Dhofar Governorate for the academic year 2008- 2009, Dhofar School basic learning expresses his happiness and talks about the moment he knew about his results.
In the school of Al Saada, post basic learning, Dalia Mohammed Ghabbari Abdul Hamid occupied the 6th place in Dhofar Governorate and she expressed her delight in being one of the honored students.
Abdul Rahman Bin Mohammed Al Mashani, Al Haq school and Nouf Bint Awadh Al Awadi, Al Nahda School and Hamdi Tahseen Hamdi and Heba Adnan, Ridan Private School expressed their delight in being honored and stressed that distinction would be the result of hard work and persistence.
Honoring school stages

Honoring covered the different school stages. Aisha Bint Omar Al Aidrose, Al Qarth School for Basic Learning Principal, expresses her gratitude to God for His endowments and talks about the importance of education and the role of good supervision to achieve distinction.
Nour Bint Saeed Al Rawas, Al Wadi School Principal talked about the different policies in teaching and learning and about the importance of distinction and innovation as well as scientific research and Thanked DU and the ministry of education for their efforts.
Al Anwar Private school principal adds that every learner can show his abilities and their talents will be correctly understood. She talked about the importance of financial support to support students and motivate them to pursue their studies.
Al Zahraa Private school Principal talked about workshops, symposia and conferences and their role increasing awareness. He thanked DU for its role and thanked His majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed for his care and efforts in encouraging students to achieve the best results.
