DU Vice Chancellor Participated in WISE DU Vice Chancellor Muhammad A. Faour was invited to attend the Inaugural World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) which was held in Doha, Qatar, November 16-18, 2009. The summit was organized by the Qatar Foundation which invited some 1000 leading minds and world experts from all over the world to discuss a variety of issues related to innovation in education. Among the noted speakers were the Director General of UNESCO, former chancellor of Germany and a host of education ministers, university presidents/vice chancellors, NGO directors, and numerous journalists. The summit concluded with drawing a road map for strategic priorities in world education for the 21st century highlighting the following goals: access to ‘quality’ education, a fully integrated approach, global citizenship, education embedded in the local community, protecting education and educators, reconciliation, ‘WISE pioneers’ to monitor progress, innovating new ways to learn, pursuing sustainable development and a future built on multi-stakeholder partnership. Referring to these goals, Prof. Faour said “The identification of these priorities constitutes an important step in a process that leads to research on innovative and relevant solutions and the implementation of international sustainable best practices.” For Arabic, click here |
