Dhofar University celebrates the Oman Woman’s Day

Exhibition and Seminar on the Role of Women Associations in the Elections of the Shaura Council

On the occasion of the Sultanate celebration of the Omani Woman Day and in accordance with the Supreme Directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, Dhofar University organized yesterday October 20, 2010 two main events: the opening of the exhibition “Glorious Fingers” and a seminar dealing with the role of the organizations of Omani women in energizing the elections operation under the patronage of his Excellency Abdulqader bin Salim Aldhahab, Secretary General of the Shawra Council. In the “Glorious finger” exhibition, many organizations took part like the Omani Organization for Painting in Dhofar, the Center for the Protection of Handicrafts in Dhofar, the Villa Traditional Nights, the Drive of Omani Woman, and the Dhofari factory for ready made clothes.

The Exhibition included a collection of works by women in various fields like photography, painting, manufacture of frankincense and frankincense burners, handicrafts made of different material and the manufacturing of traditional clothes. The seminar on the role of Omani Women in accelerating the process of elections resulted from recommendations issued by the Omani Woman Seminar held in Sih Almakarem last year regarding the implementation of training programs for building the skills and capabilities of Omani women in the election process and its management, the strengthening of the role of women in building society, as a fundamental partner in the total development and in helping Omani women associations, which are spread out in the various governorates and regions of the Sultanate. The seminar covered several topics, including the introduction of the Shawra Council, its role and goals and the role of women in the process of elections and the preparation of awareness programs for this process.

Participants in the seminar included His Excellency Abdulqader Bin Aldhahab, Secretary General of the Shawra Council, Her Honor Rahilat Bint Amer Alriyamiya, Member of the State Council, Abdalla Bin Rashid Alsabi’, Director General of Social Development in the Governorate of Dhofar, Noor Bint Hassan Alghasaniya, Chairperson of the Omani Woman Assosiation in Salalah and the Writer and Researcher Muna Bint Salim Jaaboub. The University hosted as well Eman Bint Akbar Rafi’, Chairperson of the Drive of Omani Woman, Miad Bint Youssef Albloushi, General Director of the Drive in order to introduce the Omani Woman Drive 2010 which was inaugurated lately by Her Excellency Dr. Sharifa Bint Khalfan Alyahyaia, Minister of Social Development.
