By now you probably know that I am Muhammed Faour the new Vice Chancellor of Dhofar University.

The term “president” is no longer used as per instructions from the Ministry of Higher Education. Instead, we shall be using the term Vice Chancellor although the equivalent in Arabic remains the term “Ra’is”.

I would like to welcome you all to this informal reception which I wanted to take place in a casual relaxed environment that would allow me to interact more freely with each of you. I am glad to see many faces that I know from previous encounters on meetings, but there are also many new faces that I am equally pleased to see for the first time.  As many of you know, I am not new to Oman or Dhofar University. In my former capacity as Deputy Vice President for Regional External Programs at the American University Beirut, I was the team leader for this project. The team conducted a feasibility study then designed the curricula & prepared for the different phases of this project.

Dhofar University started as an idea in the minds of few members of the Board of Trustees then was translated into a full-fledged university with 3 colleges.

This university was named after the Dhofar region as a sign of our commitment to serve this region and its people by training & graduating highly qualified professionals who can lead the national drive toward social and economic development.

All of you must have encountered several difficulties & challenges, but we have recruited the best available candidates and I am sure I can count on your hardwork, perseverance and creativity to make a difference in the lives and minds of DU students, and I shall be around to witness that change.

 Muhammad A. Faour

    Vice Chancellor
