On May 29, 2011, Dr. Aref Wazwaz, Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering accompanied a group of students on a visit to Oman Pharmaceutical Company – Raysut Industrial Area, the only pharmaceutical company in Dhofar. The students were able to visit the production unit, where a specialist from the company explained the precautions used inside the company any of the manufactured medical products from being polluted. He also detailed the production process, from the raw materials stage till the final packaging. The students then visited the quality control unit, where the specialist spoke to them about the instruments and techniques used in analyzing the raw materials and the manufactured medical products. They were given details about the instruments used, such as: HPLC, GC, TLC, FTIR, Flame Photometry, and others.

At the end of the trip, the students were presented with brochures and details about the company, which is one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in Oman.

The students, who went on the trip as an element of their “Instrumentation” course, said they had enjoyed the trip very much, and looked forward to finding work in a company such as the Oman Pharmaceutical Company after their graduation.
