The Final Round of the English Language Contest of the Foundation Program took place at Ibin Rushd Hall last week. The three teams who reached the final were Section 3 Level One X, Section 5 Level Two and Section 4 Level Three. They competed for the first, second and third prize.

Before reaching the Final Round, the three qualified sections went through two qualifying rounds that involved all the sections in their levels in order to win their level title. As champions of their own levels, the three sections competed for the first, second and third prize in the Final Round.

The questions were varied targeting knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, history, famous people, geography and sports. Each team had to answer some questions in each category before they all participated in providing the answers quicker than the rest in the Fast Round. The competition was tense and showed that the students had good general knowledge to be in the Final Round.

After one hour of tough competition, Section 3 Level One X  managed to clinch the First Prize, followed by Section 5 Level Two and Section 4 Level Three. They received the First Prize at the end of the contest from Ms Sameera AL Hawamida, the Coordinator of Level One. Medals and valuable prizes were given to the participating teams. The Organizer of the contest, Marwan Alyafaee, stated that the Contest has achieved the target aims. The contest has taken English language outside the classroom to a real-situation context. It has also given the students the opportunity to show their intellectual skills. Furthermore, it has increased the importance of general knowledge in the university student’s personality.
