Academic Programs and Degrees Offered

Dhofar University (DU) is a private institution of higher education in Salalah, Sultanate of Oman, established by Ministerial Decree No. 5/2004 issued in January 2004. The University formally commenced its operations in September 2004. DU has a Board of Trustees that represents its highest policy making body. DU grants a diploma to those who complete the first two years of study for most majors with a cumulative average of 65 percent or above. Students qualify for a Bachelor Degree at the end of the fourth academic year if they meet the graduation requirements in their major.

The university, through the Centre for Preparatory Studies (CPS), also offers a Foundation Program (FP), a one-year bridge program intended to equip high school graduates to pursue university majors at DU. The program focuses on four major areas: English, Mathematics, IT and General Study Skills. All the applicants, other than those who possess proficiency certificates for exemption, are required to sit for placement tests in English, Math and Information Technology in order to determine if they need to join the FP. Students are placed in the appropriate level or exempted from the FP based on their results in the placement tests.

There are currently four colleges at DU: College of Arts and Applied Sciences (CAAS), College of Commerce and Business Administration (CCBA), College of Engineering (CE) and College of Law (CL). These colleges offer 56 Academic Programs in different fields of specialization, representing 16 Diploma programs, 26 Bachelor degree programs,13 Master degree programs and a Teaching Diploma.

In addition, DU has the Community Service and Continuing Education Center (CSCEC) that offers variety of courses and training Programs for its staff, executives and employees of government agencies and commercial firms and for adult learners in local community through its Community Service and Continuing Education Centre.

The University has four colleges:

  • The College of Law. (CL)
