On
Tuesday December 8, 2009, at 11 a.m., DU will hold a press
conference to inaugurate the establishment of a new centre for the
International English Language Testing System (IELTS). This comes
after Cambridge University approved that Dhofar University be an
official IELTS Centre (OM080).
The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Muhammad Faour, stressed on the
significance of DU becoming an official IELTS center as this is
another milestone in DU’s academic accomplishments. The center
underpins the importance of setting English language proficiency
skills of its students thereby assisting them in completing their
undergraduate work and pursuing postgraduate degrees. The centre is
administered by Mr. Rafa Al Heyali and assisted by Ms. Safa Obaidoon.
Initially, according to Mr. Rafa Al Heyali, the centre will offer
this service to DU's Foundation Programme students for whom passing
the IELTS is one requirement for exiting the program. Furthermore,
it is a requirement for DU students in the Masters of Education in
Curriculum and Instruction. In the near future, the centre will
offer its services not only to the community in Dhofar but also to
aspiring candidates from other regions in Oman.
It is
worth noting that a press conference will follow the launching event
where details about the center and its
services
will be provided.
