Students Visit the
Port of Salalah
Dr. Jaber Al-Shahri, Professor of Civil Law
at the College of Law and Chairman of the
Industry and Community Service Committee,
accompanied a group of law students on a
visit to the Port of Salalah on Monday, May 5,
2025. The purpose of the visit was to bridge
theoretical and practical applications of laws
related to port operations, such as maritime
law, commercial law, labor law, investment law, and the Omani Penal Code.
They were received by the company’s CEO, Engineer Mohammed Awfait Al-
Mashani, along with the company’s legal team. During the visit, a visual presentation
was given highlighting the company’s operations, its international standing, the
contracts in effect, and how maritime law is applied in the company’s dealings with
both local and international investors. The students posed several legal questions
regarding the company’s application of national and international laws and its legal
oversight of other companies and individuals, given its concessionary authority to
manage the port.
Afterward, the students were taken on a tour of various areas within the port,
accompanied by the legal team, who provided a detailed explanation of the
services offered by the port to different types of vessels. They discussed the
designated berths for ships, the methods of transporting passengers and cargo,
legal requirements, container handling, towing, and maritime piloting operations.
