Dhofar University’s Risk Management System is a pivotal initiative to safeguard the university’s mission of delivering outstanding education, fostering community engagement, advancing knowledge, and aligning with Oman’s Vision 2040. The risk management system operates following the Risk Management Policy (DU-AD-002 سياسة إدارة المخاطر), which provides a structured framework to ensure the institution’s resilience and alignment with its vision, mission, and objectives. The policy guides the identification, assessment, and prioritization of the risks across all academic and non-academic units, fostering a proactive approach to risk prevention and mitigation. Through a coordinated system, risk centres maintain detailed risk registers and develop tailored strategies to address potential challenges, ensuring effective resource utilization and the protection of the university’s reputation, operations, and community well-being. Regular reviews and collaborative efforts across departments enhance the system’s effectiveness, supporting a secure and thriving academic environment.
The DU Risk Management System is the cornerstone of commitment, ensuring the safety, resilience, and success of the students, staff, and stakeholders by proactively identifying risk, assessing risk, and mitigating across all aspects of university life. The approach to risk management is comprehensive and collaborative, drawing on insights from 7 academic risk centres, including colleges and departments, and 15 non-academic risk centres, encompassing specialized units across the university. At Dhofar University, risk management serves as a cornerstone of the commitment to ensuring the safety, resilience, and success of students, staff, and stakeholders by proactively identifying risk, assessing risk, and mitigating across all aspects of university life.
The approach to risk management is comprehensive and collaborative, drawing on insights from 7 academic risk centers, including colleges and departments, and 15 non-academic risk centers (see table below), encompassing specialized units across the university. By working closely with university leadership and staff, challenges are addressed proactively, tailoring best practices to the unique context of Dhofar University. This ensures the protection of resources, the preservation of reputation, and the well-being of the university community.
The Risk Management Office is dedicated to fortifying Dhofar University against risks that could impact the vision, mission, and objectives. These risks range from environmental challenges, equipment or facility failures, and incidents involving staff or students to threats to reputation, financial stability, competition, or unforeseen events. Risks are systematically identified across all academic and non-academic units, ensuring each maintains a comprehensive risk register. The focus remains on proactive prevention through tailored strategies and robust mitigation plans to minimize potential impacts. By regularly reviewing and refining the approach, the university’s financial, human, and physical resources are optimized. Whether by eliminating, mitigating, transferring, or prudently accepting risks, the goal is to foster a resilient environment where academic excellence, operational efficiency, and community well-being flourish in support of Oman’s National Vision.
Students, faculty, staff, and partners are invited to engage with the RMO to cultivate a culture of shared responsibility. Feedback and vigilance are vital to strengthening resilience.
