Dhofar University Marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Highlighting Leadership and Community Engagement

Dhofar University, through its College of Arts and Applied Sciences, commemorated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and Volunteering yesterday morning under the theme “Promoting the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.” The event was hosted at the College of Medicine Hall at the Student Activity Center.

The ceremony was inaugurated by Prof. Amer bin Ali Al Rawas, Dhofar University Vice Chancellor, and attended by representatives from several government and community organizations, including the General Directorate of Social Development, the General Directorate of Education in Dhofar Governorate, the Ministry of Health, the Royal Oman Police, the Entrepreneurship Center, and institutions dedicated to social work.

The program featured a variety of activities such as introductory presentations, awareness booths, and interactive sessions. These initiatives aimed to raise public awareness of disability-related issues, showcase the leadership and community contributions of persons with disabilities, and reinforce efforts to empower and integrate them across diverse fields. The event also sought to instill a spirit of volunteerism and social responsibility among university students.

In his keynote address, Prof. Al Rawas underscored the importance of ensuring the active participation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of life. He highlighted the University’s commitment to providing an inclusive educational environment that guarantees equal opportunities for all by stating that “Our participation in this international event reflects Dhofar University’s dedication to fostering a culture of inclusion and supporting the leadership potential and talents of this valued group. It aligns with our vision of building a more inclusive and equitable future for society and our students.”

This celebration forms part of Dhofar University’s ongoing initiatives to support all segments of society, strengthen the values of inclusion and sustainability, and reinforce the role of academic institutions in serving the community and advancing sustainable development.
