Overview
The Technical Affairs department (TAD) is involved with the preventive as well as reactive maintenance for civil, electrical, mechanical & safety items. It is also involved in upcoming project developments and any alterations which are to be undertaken as per the University’s requirements. This department directs the activities of the various relevant functions to achieve optimum utilization of resources.
The department also oversees the services of 14 nos. outsourced contractors for eg. wooden floor & retractable seating, elevators, rolling shutters, substations, ACBs, capacitor panels, sliding doors, traffic barriers, AC maintenance, pest control, water tank & sewer line cleaning, irrigation & landscaping, fire alarm panels & fire-fighting equipment, general cleaning etc.

The above motto signifies TAD’s preference for scheduled preventive maintenance which in turn reduces the reactive maintenance thereby resulting in smooth functioning of the University (for instance, uninterrupted power, AC, sewage & water). This in turn will significantly lower the cost of maintenance and increase the durability of building finishing materials & equipment.
Department Roles & Responsibilities
1. ADMINISTRATIVE SECTION
The various administrative duties & responsibilities of the department include the following :
- Liaising with concerned TAD section in-charges, Colleges & departments
- Preparing memos & technical reports pertaining to maintenance & related activities.
- Maintaining schedule for reserving Conference Hall for exams/events.
- Prepare and monitor annual department budget.
2. CIVIL SECTION
The duties & responsibilities of the civil section include the following:
- Allocating & monitoring the work responsibility to the technicians for carrying out the preventive & reactive maintenance as per schedule and supervision of the same by the Engineer.
- Attending to any civil-related repair & maintenance work in the University.
- Supervision of suppliers/consultants regarding civil works on all ongoing site activities
- Maintenance of the retractable seating & wooden flooring in Conference Hall for events / exams
- Execution of any small civil work or alteration work as per University requirements.
- Certification of invoice payments (wherever applicable) for civil-related work carried out by external agency
3. ELECTRICAL SECTION
The duties & responsibilities of the electrical section include the following:
- Allocating & monitoring the work responsibility to the technicians for carrying out the preventive & reactive maintenance as per schedule and supervision of the same by the Engineer.
- Attending to any electrical faults/defects in the University 24/7.
- Supervision of suppliers/consultants regarding electrical works in all ongoing site activities
- Supervision of servicing of ACBs, capacitor panels, elevators, traffic barriers, automatic sliding doors, etc.
- Providing power supply/connection for any additional work as per University requirements.
- Preparing the electricity consumption charges to be levied on all shops in the campus.
- Certification of invoice payments (wherever applicable) for electrical-related work carried out by external agency.
4. MECHANICAL SECTION
The duties & responsibilities of the mechanical section include the following:
- Allocating & monitoring the work responsibility to the technicians for carrying out the preventive & reactive maintenance as per schedule and supervision of the same by the Engineer
- Attending to any faults/defects related to ACs, sewage, water supply, irrigation etc. in the University 24/7.
- Servicing of sanitary wares in toilet areas & dormitories, greasing & servicing of pumps.
- Supervision of maintenance of all landscape areas.
- Supervision of cleaning & pest control of wet & dry manholes, sewage lines and lifting stations
- Supervision of maintenance of pump rooms, water tanks & borewells.
- Supervising the maintenance of all ACs inside the buildings.
- Supervising the suppliers/consultant regarding the AC, plumbing & other mechanical works in all ongoing site activities
- Preparing the water consumption charges to be levied on all shops in the campus.
- Certification of invoice payments (wherever applicable) for mechanical-related work carried out by external agency.
5. HEALTH & SAFETY SECTION
The duties & responsibilities of the health & safety section include the following:
- Maintenance of all fire-fighting & safety equipment inside the campus and renewal of license from Civil Defense
- First-Aid & CPR training to volunteers in DU in coordination with the DU Clinic staff.
- Supervision of health & hygiene–related guidelines in cafeterias, restaurants, shops & pantries inside the campus
- Conducting awareness programs on the fundamental aspects of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in the workplace
- Safety induction given for all new academic & non-academic staff
- Conducting mock fire drills & evacuation procedures in order to familiarize all employees & students in the event of an emergency in coordination with Civil Defense
- Supervising the cleaning & pest control in the buildings & external areas
- Coordination with the Health & Safety Committees of all Colleges
