Overview

The Department of Administrative Affairs (DAA) is considered as the backbone of Dhofar University. It comes under the supervision of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administrative and Financial Affairs and undertakes to oversee and monitor the administrative work, stores, insurance, security services and general services at the University. It is headed by a Director of Administrative affairs who is supported by the Deputy Director and the unit heads. The roles and responsibilities of the department are to:

  • Provide back end support with the collaboration of other departments to plan and achieve targets in stipulated time.
  • Prepare, follow-up and renew contracts with external organizations/companies as per the University bylaws.
  • Play a vital role in communication between the Dhofar University and other government and private institutions.
  • Provide services to staff & students that includes:
    • Transport Services (Ladies hostel and University guest; 24 hour)
    • DU Vehicles Maintenance
    • Staff vehicle registration service
    • Labour Services including Furniture shifting
    • Mail Services
    • Classroom Equipment Security Monitoring
    • Parking Lot Monitoring
    • Campus Watch – Safe Transport System around campus
    • Crime Alert Notices
    • Staff Health Insurance services

The DAA overlooks and supervises following sub units:

General Services Unit

General Services Unit is responsible to monitor and supervise the following sub-units and services:

       1.    Reception & Mail services

The reception at Dhofar University is responsible for receiving and welcoming guests and students, guiding them to desired office locations across the campus and dispatching and receiving mails.

       2.    Insurance Unit

The insurance unit is responsible to coordinate with the Health insurance companies for insurance of DU staff, faculty and their dependents as per the University bylaws.

       3.    Transportation Unit

The transportation unit is responsible to provide transport services to guests, Staff and faculty (on request) and to the Students’ hostel. The unit also monitors the entry of vehicles in and around the campus by issuing official passes to its staff and students.

       4.    Contracting Services

The general services unit is also responsible for managing and renewing the contracts with national firms providing general services at DU like telephony, internet, cleaning etc.

       5.    General Services Staff

The DAA is also responsible to monitor and supervise staff providing general services (messengers) across the campus.

Security Unit

The Office of Security unit is located at the main entrance in Dhofar University and works under the umbrella of the Department of administrative affairs. Its mission is to provide a safe and secure environment round the clock within the premises of University. All buildings are monitored by security cameras to avoid any illicit activity. The buildings are fully equipped with sufficient fire emergency alarms & emergency exit points to handle any unfortunate incident. Students and staff are trained from time to time to efficiently react in emergency situations. Its team of highly trained security officers patrol the campus whole day and are in continuous communication with the Command & Control Center. The officers there answer emergency and routine phone calls, monitor security cameras and several access control points on campus. The female security officers provide 24-hour security service in the female Hostel.

General Store

DU Central store is responsible to process the purchase orders sent by the purchase department. It is also responsible for maintaining the inventory of items received along with the verification of the received products.

University Bookstore

The Dhofar University (DU) Bookstore has been operational since February 2017. The facility is providing convenient and easy access to textbooks, e-books and reading material at an affordable price exclusively for DU students and instructors.
