A workshop for effective professional communication in different work contexts at Dhofar University
The period from August 13-17, 2023 witnessed a training course on (effective communication skills for supervisory job holders) at the University of Dhofar, in cooperation between the Center for Community Service and Continuing Education at the Universities of Dhofar and Sultan Qaboos, presented by Dr. Ibtisam bint Salem Al-Wahibi, Assistant Professor at the Business Communication Unit at the College of Economics and Political Science At Sultan Qaboos University, supervisory leaders from Dhofar University and others from the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones and the Central Bank of Oman as well as the National Center for Statistics and Information attended that session.
The axes of the training workshop aimed to inculcate and consolidate an advanced concept in identifying different communication styles and adapting communication strategies, as well as enhancing active listening skills in professional interactions and learning the strategy of managing and resolving conflicts through constructive communication as well as developing effective methods for asking questions and feedback to facilitate discussions with the need to enhance communication skills Intercultural relationships and building relationships with colleagues from different backgrounds while understanding ethical considerations in professional communication of confidentiality, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
The workshop also provided a detailed explanation of strategies for managing difficult conversations and dealing with sensitive topics professionally, while training in giving constructive feedback and learning how to adapt communication methods with different audiences, while developing a vision for effective time management in communication, setting priorities, organizing and concise messages.
Among its objectives, the training workshop called for improving professional writing skills and enhancing professional email etiquette, while applying effective communication techniques to manage expectations, delegate tasks, and provide feedback in a team environment.
