Position Title: Deputy Director
Salary and Rank: Commensurate with education and experience
Appointment Type: Non-Academic, annual basis (renewable)
Starting Date: Within one month of appointment

Duties & Responsibilities:

Participate in the development of strategic plan and budget for the department led by the Director.
Prepare Monthly Action Plan for the entire department in alignment with the strategic plan.
Monitor all the sections and follow up with each department and colleges and CPS.
Attend meetings of the department and report on the follow of the task assigned.
Check daily backups, system interfaces, server hardware, and logs.
Assist CNC staff in daily tasks, train them on theoretical and practical procedures, troubleshooting, and support them within corporate standards.
Claim suppliers for any software/hardware conflicts and follow up on all claims forwarded to CNC.
Supervise and ensure proper functioning of the IT support helpdesk system.
Document and archive all correspondence and troubleshooting; follow up on suppliers’ visits and maintenance.
Develop and adapt ideas that enhance IT services with the approval of the Director.
Analyze, design, test, install, maintain, and document computer systems.
Guide CNC staff in the installation and maintenance of computers across laboratories and requested locations.
Assist in administering University computing resources including:
- VMware vSphere infrastructure and virtual machines
- Oracle Servers and Databases (including SIS, HR, Finance)
- Linux servers and systems
- Microsoft Exchange Servers, FTP, Active Directory, DNS, Cluster Servers
- Fortinet firewall and network security systems
- Kaspersky antivirus systems and updates
- Koha / Virtua Library System and other applications
Provide and write technical requests for proposals (RFP) and recommendations for the procurement of new computers and IT accessories.
Ensure implementation and monitoring of security procedures to protect systems from intrusions, breaches, viruses, unauthorized access, and data loss. Ensure up-to-date compatibility and regular system updates.
Manage the University’s IP telephony system and advise the Director on required improvements.
Assist with development and review of IT policies, procedures, and disaster recovery plans.
Collaborate on programming projects and automation scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.) to improve operational efficiency.
Support advanced networking configurations and services (routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs).
Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Director.
Act as Acting Director in the absence of the Director of CNC.

Eligibility Conditions:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role managing information systems and networks in a large organization.
Excellent written and verbal communication in Arabic and English.
Preference given to holders of certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CAPM, AMA-CPM, COBIT 5, CompTIA Network+/Project+, ITIL, MCSE, CCNA, DBA, etc.
Omani National.

The Department of English Language and Literature (CAAS) is seeking committed Research Assistants who possess a fervent interest in selecting stories, creating comprehension exercises, and aiding our project by coordinating research-related tasks. This position requires balancing multiple responsibilities and prioritizing tasks efficiently to ensure timely completion.

Requirements for RAs (Faculty):

Doctorate/Post-graduate/Undergraduates in English language, Literature, Linguistics or and Teaching English
Excellent research background
Knowledge of EFL teaching and learning principles and practices
Familiarity with graded readers and their pedagogical value
Experience in conducting research and working on educational projects is a plus

Requirements for the Reviewer’s Position:

Strong understanding of Islamic principles, folklore, and moral stories.
Excellent writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
Ability to evaluate content on cultural and educational value.
Ability to provide constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
Strong communication skills for collaboration with authors and editors.
Familiarity with graded/supplementary readers and their requirements.
Passion for promoting diverse cultural narratives.
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects efficiently.

Requirements for RAs (Undergraduates):

Strong skills in data entry and management
Experience with poster presentation and design/layout
Ability to collect and organize research data effectively
Proficient in conducting interviews with students
Interest in Islamic, folklore, and moral stories

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Specific Responsibilities:

Typing and designing books
Selecting stories and Translating text from Arabic to English
developing text-based tasks and activities, proofreading, and editing till the books are print-ready
Retelling selected stories by incorporating specific vocabulary and doing necessary illustrations.

General Responsibilities:

Assisting in the development of three graded English Supplementary Readers for EFL learners at Foundation Program in Omani Universities
Ability to write comprehension tasks based on the select stories
Providing feedback on the materials and making revisions as necessary
Collaborating with the project team to ensure the timely completion of the project

Applications are invited for a temporary Research Assistant (RA) position at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, Dhofar University, Salalah, Oman. This position is part of a Research Grant (RG) project funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research & Innovation (MoHERI) of Oman and will be supervised by Dr. Monzer Daoud from Dhofar Unviersity and Dr. Walid Jomaa from Polytechnique Montreal, Canada.

Context:

In recent years, hydrogen energy, well-known for its wide availability and zero emissions, has become an attractive option for new clean energy source, with applications spanning transportation, materials production, and heating of buildings. However, adopting the hydrogen energy presents specific challenges. Among these, hydrogen embrittlement (HE) which impacts the integrity and performance of materials employed in hydrogen transport and storage. This phenomenon occurs when hydrogen atoms are absorbed by metallic materials, especially in environments under elevated hydrogen pressure, resulting in a loss of ductility and consequently a risk of catastrophic failure. A deeper insight into the correlations between microstructure and HE sensitivity is highly important for ensuring the safety of hydrogen energy systems. In this context, this proposal aims at using artificial intelligence algorithms to enhance the accuracy of phase identification and accelerate the analysis of the microstructure of steels.

Project objectives:

This research focuses on microstructural analysis of steels, involving:

Phase identification in low-and high-grade steels under different heat treatments and mechanical processes.
Crystallographic orientation mapping using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) to build a dataset for deep learning (DL) training.
Selection and implementation of high-performance DL algorithms for phase recognition.
Investigation of the correlation between microstructure and HE sensitivity.

Research Assistant (RA) position requirements:

We are seeking a highly qualified Research Assistant (RA) with a Master’s or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a closely related field. Candidates with backgrounds in Mechanical Engineering (Materials Focus)/Physics (Crystallography)/Computer Science (AI/Deep Learning for Materials Science) may also be considered.

Main Responsibilities:

Compiling and analyzing data.
Authoring reports, including analysis reports, literature reviews, and final project reports.
Developing machine learning models.
Writing research papers related to project findings for potential publication.

Salary:

5 OMR/hour
