Welcome to the Centre for Teaching and Learning at DU

The Center of Teaching and Learning (CTL) is a service-research unit within Dhofar University supporting and serving the university and community at large.

CTL was established in 2008 to provide a variety of teaching resources and services for faculty throughout the university. The Center conducts workshops and discussion groups, provides professional development, electronic resources, generates teaching tips, and is available for private, confidential consultations and classroom visits. The more recent initiatives draw on the resources and capacity to engage the community in the best teaching practices and professional development.

Vision

The CTL will play a leadership support through the promotion of the best teaching practices and research teaching nexus at Dhofar University.

Mission

The CTL is a support unit for faculty, teacher practitioners and school administrators in shaping practice through professional development and research. The CTL shall be seen to support continuous improvement in teacher professional practice at the university and the community.

Rationale

The rationale for CTL is to instill best teaching practices, scholarship and leadership by providing educational development opportunities for practitioners.

Objectives

The main objectives for CTL are to coordinate professional development activities, bring applied research to professional practice, make assessments, and evaluate teacher professional development programs.

A. Educational Development

  • A.1. Promote professional development and training at Dhofar University
  • A.2. Provide on-time professional development services and consultancies
  • A.3. Coordinate and administer all in-service teacher training workshops at Dhofar University
  • A.4. Organize Professional Educational Professional Practice Seminars
  • A.5. Promote professional development and training in Omani Schools; Establish development research projects within the university and in partnership and the community

  • B.1. Encourage faculty scholarship through teaching-research nexus
  • B.2. Conduct analytical studies of teacher training programs
  • B.3. Provide empirical and evaluative research reports on teacher training programs
  • B.4. Make recommendations on professional teaching practice
  • B.5. Establish a yearly professional development research priorities
  • B.6. Maintain a database of teacher-research scholarly activities in Oman and the Gulf region
