College of Engineering Empowering the Future of Design
On May 3, 2025, the College of Engineering at Dhofar University held an intensive, full-day workshop titled “UPGRADE BIM SKILLS in Architecture and Interior Design.” Led by Dr. Lamiaa Mostafa, a specialist in digital and sustainable design, the session aimed to advance participants’ expertise in Building Information Modeling (BIM)—a transformative technology reshaping architecture and interior design.
The workshop, part of the college’s broader commitment to innovation and skill development, brought together students, graduates, and industry professionals for over seven hours of active learning and application. Attendees engaged in hands-on sessions exploring how BIM integrates structural, environmental, and financial data into intelligent 3D models, enhancing design efficiency and supporting sustainability.
Dr. Lamiaa introduced participants to advanced BIM tools, including BIM 4D and BIM 5D, which add time and cost dimensions to design models. These capabilities enable more precise construction simulation, feasibility analysis, and decision-making. The workshop also demonstrated the integration of BIM with environmental analysis tools to promote smarter spatial planning and sustainable design solutions.
More than just technical training, the workshop was designed to equip the next generation of architects and interior designers with digital competencies aligned with market demands. It served as a bridge between academic knowledge and real-world application, enhancing participants’ readiness for a rapidly evolving industry.
This workshop is part of an ongoing series of scientific initiatives by the College of Engineering, aligned with Oman Vision 2040. It reflects Dhofar University’s mission to develop national talent and foster a smarter, more sustainable built environment for future generations.
