The Dhofar University Centre for Sustainability (DUCS) serves as a leading platform for advancing sustainability awareness, education, and innovation within Dhofar University and the wider community. The Centre is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices that support environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic development.
Aligned with the global framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), DUCS works to integrate sustainability principles into teaching, research, campus operations, and community engagement. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the Centre encourages faculty members, students, and external partners to contribute to solutions that address pressing environmental and societal challenges.
The Centre organizes a range of initiatives including sustainability awareness campaigns, workshops, seminars, research activities, and community outreach programs. It also supports student-led sustainability initiatives and promotes innovative projects that contribute to a more sustainable future.
By fostering a culture of sustainability across the university, DUCS aims to empower the university community to become responsible for global citizens and active contributors to sustainable development locally and globally.

Sustainability at Dhofar University:
At Dhofar University, sustainability is recognized as a fundamental principle that supports responsible development and long-term institutional growth. Through the Dhofar University Centre for Sustainability (DUCS), the university seeks to embed sustainability into its academic, operational, and community activities, contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The university adopts a comprehensive approach that integrates sustainability into four main areas: education, research, campus operations, and community engagement.
Sustainability in Education
Dhofar University promotes Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) by encouraging the integration of sustainability concepts and SDG-related themes into academic programs and courses. Faculty members are encouraged to incorporate sustainability topics into their teaching in order to develop students’ awareness of environmental, social, and economic challenges and prepare them to become responsible for global citizens.
Sustainability in Research
The university supports research initiatives that address sustainability challenges and contribute to innovative solutions in areas such as environmental protection, sustainable resource management, and social development. Faculty members and students are encouraged to participate in interdisciplinary research projects and collaborate with local and international partners.
Sustainable Campus Practices
Dhofar University is committed to promoting environmentally responsible practices across campus operations. Projects and Initiatives
a. Sustainability Week
In collaboration with the College of Commerce and Business Administration, the Dhofar University Centre for Sustainability (DUCS) is preparing for Sustainability Week, a university-wide initiative designed to promote sustainability awareness and encourage active participation among students and faculty. The event will include a variety of activities such as seminars, competitions, and awareness campaigns that highlight the importance of sustainable practices and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
b. Sustainability Students’ Society
The Sustainability Student’s Society at Dhofar University, supported by the Dhofar University Centre for Sustainability (DUCS), is being established to provide a platform for students interested in promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Once fully active, the Society will engage students in initiatives such as awareness campaigns, volunteer activities, student-led projects, and participation in sustainability-related events and competitions. These activities will encourage students to develop innovative ideas and practical solutions that support sustainable development.
Through its future initiatives, the Student Sustainability Society aims to foster a culture of sustainability on campus and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
c. Become a Member
The Student Sustainability Society at Dhofar University welcomes students who are passionate about sustainability to join and actively contribute to building a greener campus.
Members have the opportunity to participate in awareness campaigns, student-led projects, volunteer initiatives, and sustainability-related events. Joining the Society also provides a platform to develop leadership skills, collaborate with peers and faculty, and make a tangible impact on the university community.
