Dhofar University Honours Authors on World Book Day

Salalah – On Sunday, 26 April, Dhofar University marked ‘World Book and Copyright Day’ with a special cultural celebration held under the patronage of His Excellency Mohammed bin Hassan Al Ansi, Member of the Shura Council representing the Wilayat of Salalah. The event was attended by Professor Amer bin Ali Al Rawas, Dhofar University Vice Chancellor, alongside faculty members, administrators, students, and members of the wider community.

The ceremony opened with a welcoming address highlighting the vital role of books in building awareness, advancing knowledge, and enriching the cultural and scientific landscape. Speakers emphasized the University’s mission to support publishing, encourage creativity, and honour authors whose works contribute to intellectual and literary progress.

Mr. Ali bin Bakhit Al Awaid, Director of the University’s Library, underscored the significance of the occasion, noting that the annual celebration reflects Dhofar University’s commitment to disseminating knowledge and promoting a culture of reading. He explained that this year’s programme included recognition of faculty members for their recent publications, as well as an exhibition of distinguished books and reference works designed to inspire students and reinforce respect for intellectual property.

The academic programme featured a presentation by Professor Mona bint Ahmed Al Saadoun, Dean of the College of Medicine, entitled “The Development and Future of Books in Medical Education.” Her paper explored the evolving role of medical texts in supporting educational outcomes and integrating modern technologies into teaching.

Faculty authors were honoured for their scientific and literary contributions, which enrich the Arabic library and strengthen academic content. The Vice Chancellor also presented a commemorative gift to the patron of the ceremony in appreciation of his support.

The event concluded with the opening of the “Distinguished Books and References” exhibition, organised by the University’s Library in collaboration with the colleges. Featuring recent publications and academic resources, the exhibition reflects Dhofar University’s dedication to fostering a stimulating intellectual environment for research, learning, and community service.
