Dhofar University implements governance program and institutional performance development for Dhofar Municipality employees.

Dhofar University has started implementing the governance program and developing institutional performance for the employees of the Dhofar Municipality, at the initiative and organization of the Community Service and Continuing Education Center at the university, and the training program extends until the fifth of February 2024 and seeks to train specialized human cadres on institutional government standards and practices followed in addition to the variables with regard to institutional governance and sustainability approaches to institutional excellence through the development of systematic strategies to upgrade and adapt to work variables.

Omar Al-Shahri, Director of the Center at the university, pointed out that the training program is a symbolic indication of cooperation and partnership between Dhofar University and Dhofar Municipality in many fields, of which training is one of its forms, as this training program witnesses the participation of municipality employees at the level of directors of departments and sections with the aim of qualifying attendees to lead governance policies and forming teams to review, evaluate and improve those policies while empowering trainees with the knowledge and tools necessary to integrate and apply governance standards in the field of work by acquiring knowledge and scientific skills. He added that one of the outputs of the training
program is the trainees’ ability to formulate an integrated guide to governance policies and the possibility of applying this on the ground, through practical training through training workshops and applications, while acquiring the skills of analyzing opportunities and threats and developing a strategic framework to deal with them, in order to develop the capabilities of participants in developing and implementing strategic plans for governance practices.

It is worth mentioning that this training program is implemented by a team of members of the academic staff at Dhofar University and includes many axes, including the concept of corporate governance and its basic principles and explaining its objectives of transparency, accountability, responsibility and equality as one of the criteria of excellence according to the government program with clarification of the capabilities and results associated with those standards and their impact on achieving Oman Vision 2040.

The steps taken by the Sultanate towards consolidating the principles of governance are also the most important axes of the training program and the nature of the rational elements of governance and their applications in institutional work and their impact on enhancing institutional reputation with how to apply those principles in ISO specifications.

The training program also addresses the local and international legislation of the government, its adequacy and shortcomings, and indicators for the application of governance elements and principles in government work, highlighting the preparatory steps and practical procedures towards the application of good governance in government agencies and institutions by revealing the factors of weakness and strength in the application of governance at the level of strategic management and the inevitability of governance as a key element in achieving sustainable development by presenting the best local and international practices in the field of its applications.
