Dhofar University Launches Counselling Week
Dhofar University inaugurated its week-long Counselling Week on the morning of 5 April at the Student Activities Hall. The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Hani Al Qadi, Director-General of the General Directorate of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate, and attended by Prof. Dr. Amer bin Ali Al Rawas, Dhofar University Vice Chancellor, along with academics, students, and members of the wider community. The opening day featured an awareness exhibition organized by the Counselling Department, highlighting the contributions of several government institutions in raising student awareness on pressing social issues such as the risks associated with drug use and psychotropic substances, the vital role of instilling moral values and fostering intellectual security, and the significance of preserving family bonds in the face of contemporary challenges. The exhibition emphasized how such efforts contribute to building a safe and resilient society capable of addressing psychological challenges.
Participating institutions showcased their counselling services and awareness programs, paving the way for greater cooperation and integration with the local community. Throughout the week, the program will include workshops, lectures, and counselling sessions designed to empower students and enhance their academic and personal development. Dr. Al Qadi commended the high standard of the exhibition, noting that it reflects the integration of efforts among the participating bodies. He stressed that student guidance is a multifaceted process requiring collaboration across disciplines and institutions, noting that the diversity of participation from government agencies to universities and specialized centers provided a comprehensive approach to student issues.
He further emphasized that engaging with students must take place through multiple channels, including psychological support, social media interaction, and awareness campaigns addressing the dangers of drugs, psychotropic substances, and extortion. This holistic approach, he explained, ensures that challenges are tackled from every angle.
