Dhofar University Marks 12th Research Day

Dhofar University, represented by its Research Department, celebrated in the Conference Hall, the launch of its 12th Scientific Research Day on 2 April, under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Saif bin Abdullah Al Hadabi, Chairman of the Research and Innovation Authority.

His Excellency’s patronage underscored the close collaboration between academic institutions and the Authority in strengthening Oman’s scientific research system. The event started with a visual presentation showcasing the University’s research achievements, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, Dhofar University Deputy Vice Chancellor, who expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted the vital role of research in advancing knowledge and development.

A key highlight of the day was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Dhofar University and Namaa Dhofar Services, witnessed by the patron of the event. The agreement, signed by Prof. Amer bin Ali Al Rawas, Dhofar University Vice Chancellor, and Eng. Hamid bin Omar Al Ibrahim, General Manager of Planning and Assets at Namaa Dhofar Services, aims to strengthen the link between academic research and the local industrial and service sectors.

The programme also featured presentations on the University’s notable research achievements. Prof. Dr. Luay Rashan highlighted the accomplishments of the Dhofar University Research Centre, while Prof. Mazhar UL-Islam highlighted the contributions of the UNESCO Chair in Science and Innovation for Environmental Sustainability.

Prof. Al Rawas emphasized that the 12th edition of Research Day reflects the University’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and strengthening the research system as a cornerstone of academic excellence. He noted ongoing efforts to create a stimulating research environment that supports knowledge production and its application to societal needs, stressing that partnerships with national and international institutions are essential for aligning research outputs with sustainable development goals.
He added that the active participation of researchers and students demonstrates the maturity of the university’s research experience and its capacity to generate innovative solutions to contemporary challenges. He concluded by reaffirming Dhofar University’s dedication to nurturing research talent and consolidating its position as a leading academic institution locally and regionally.

In recognition of outstanding contributions, the patron of the ceremony presented academic and recognition awards to distinguished faculty and staff. The event concluded with the inauguration of a research poster exhibition, where His Excellency and attendees toured displays of diverse scientific projects by researchers and students. The exhibition, which included a poster competition, reflected the spirit of innovation within the University community.
