Faculty of Law at Dhofar University Holds Training Course on International Law at the International Court of Justice

Mr. Mahmoud Ali Suhail Al-Maashani, lecturer in public law at the Faculty of Law, Dhofar University, participated in the Winter Course on International Law 2024, which was held from January 8-26, 2023, at The Hague Academy of International Law – Peace Palace – the headquarters of the International Court of Justice.

The training program included lectures on various topics in public and private international law, such as international energy law, settlement of disputes of international organizations, environmental protection, international treaty law, international arbitration, and counter-terrorism. These topics were covered through lectures, workshops, and panel discussions delivered by a group of international law experts, including international law professors, judges, and professionals from the United Nations.

The course schedule also included visits to embassies and international organizations, such as the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the International Criminal Court, to delve into the practical aspects of international law. It is worth mentioning that The Hague Academy of International Law is one of the most prestigious educational institutions in public and private international law, located in the Peace Palace in The Hague, where the International Court of Justice is based.

The Academy has been active since 1923 and has become a center for research and teaching, aiming to promote advanced scientific studies in the legal aspects of international relations. It works to assist in the teaching and dissemination of international law on a broader scale and uses English and French as the languages of instruction. It is part of The Hague Academic Coalition and has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize between 1915-1956. Among its graduates, faculty members, and administration are heads of state, foreign ministers, ambassadors, and 12 judges of the International Court of Justice.
