ELL Department Student Shines at International Conference on Quran Translation
Ms. Noor Hussein Salim Abdullah Al-Dhahab, a fourth-year Translation student at Dhofar University, participated in the First International Conference on Exploring the Meanings of the Holy Quran through Translation and the Role of Emerging Technologies (2–4 April 2026), an event that brought together international scholars and was co-organized by Al-Zahra College for Women and the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.
She presented a paper titled “Salient Features in Pickthall’s Translation of the Meanings of the Glorious Koran” during a session on historical perspectives in Quran translation. Her study examined Pickthall’s use of archaic English influenced by the King James Bible and his semantic, structurally faithful approach to preserving meaning, tone, and reverence.
Notably, she was the only student participant among academics and specialists, making her contribution particularly significant. Her participation highlights her research competence and reflects the quality of academic preparation at Dhofar University, as well as the ability of its students to engage in international scholarly discourse.
