Duties:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Dhofar University, Sultanate of Oman, invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (starting in Fall 2026–27) in the field of Power Engineering. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in areas such as power systems, power generation, renewable energy systems, power electronics, smart grids, power system protection, or related fields.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses, supervising students’ projects, and engaging in active research within their area of specialization. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, demonstrate excellence in teaching, possess strong research potential, and have effective communication skills. Requirements:

A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (Power Engineering specialization) or a closely related field.
In-depth subject knowledge and expertise in Power Engineering and related areas.
Experience (minimum of two years) in teaching and developing laboratory courses in introductory and advanced power engineering subjects.
Experience in power systems, renewable energy integration, smart grid technologies, or power electronics applications is highly desirable.

Position Title: Deputy Director of Computing and Networking Center

Salary and rank: Salary and rank are commensurate with education and experience.

Appointment type: Non-Academic, annual basis (renewable)

Starting Date: Within one month of appointment

Duties & Responsibilities:

Participate in the development of strategic plan and budget for the department led by the Director
Prepare Monthly Action Plan for the entire department in alignment with the strategic plan
Monitor all the sections and follow up with each department and colleges and CPS
Attend meetings of the department and report on the follow of the task assigned
Checking daily backups, system interfaces, server hardware and logs.
Assists CNC staff in daily tasks, trains them on theoretical and practical procedures, troubleshooting, and supports them within corporate standards.
Claim suppliers for any software/hardware conflicts and follow up on all claims forwarded to CNC.
Supervise and ensure proper functioning of the IT support helpdesk system.
Document and archive all correspondence and troubleshooting; follow up on suppliers’ visits and maintenance.
Develop and adapt ideas that enhance IT services with the approval of the Director.
Analyze, design, test, install, maintain, and document computer systems.
Guide CNC staff in the installation and maintenance of computers across laboratories and requested locations.
Assist in administering University computing resources including:
- VMware vSphere infrastructure and virtual machines
- Oracle Servers and Databases (including SIS, HR, Finance)
- Linux servers and systems
- Microsoft Exchange Servers, FTP, Active Directory, DNS, Cluster Servers
- Fortinet firewall and network security systems
- Kaspersky antivirus systems and updates
- Koha / Virtua Library System and other applications
Provide and write technical requests for proposals (RFP) and recommendations for the procurement of new computers and IT accessories.
Ensure implementation and monitoring of security procedures to protect systems from intrusions, breaches, viruses, unauthorized access, and data loss. Ensure up-to-date compatibility and regular system updates.
Manage the University’s IP telephony system and advise the Director on the required improvements.
Assist with development and review of IT policies, procedures, and disaster recovery plans.
Collaborate on programming projects and automation scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.) to improve operational efficiency.
Support advanced networking configurations and services (routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs).
Perform any other task as assigned by the Director.
Act as acting director in the absence of the director of CNC.

Eligibility Conditions:

The candidate should have:

Bachelor’s degree in information technology or computer engineering or equivalent.
Minimum experience of at least Ten (10) years of experience 5 of them in a supervisory level in handling and managing information system and networks of a large organization.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in Arabic and English

This position is part of a Research Grant (RG) project funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research & Innovation (MoHERI) of Oman and will be supervised by Dr. Monzer Daoud from Dhofar Unviersity and Dr. Walid Jomaa from Polytechnique Montreal, Canada.

1. Context

In recent years, hydrogen energy, well-known for its wide availability and zero emissions, has become an attractive option for new clean energy sources, with applications spanning transportation, materials production, and heating of buildings. However, adopting hydrogen energy presents specific challenges. Among these, hydrogen embrittlement (HE) which impacts the integrity and performance of materials employed in hydrogen transport and storage. This phenomenon occurs when hydrogen atoms are absorbed by metallic materials, especially in environments under elevated hydrogen pressure, resulting in a loss of ductility and consequently a risk of catastrophic failure. A deeper insight into the correlations between microstructure and HE sensitivity is highly important for ensuring the safety of hydrogen energy systems. In this context, this proposal aims at using artificial intelligence algorithms to enhance the accuracy of phase identification and accelerate the analysis of the microstructure of steels.

2. Project objectives

This research focuses on microstructural analysis of steels, involving:

Phase identification in low-and high-grade steels under different heat treatments and mechanical processes.
Investigation of the correlation between microstructure and HE sensitivity.

3. Research Assistant (RA) position requirements

We are seeking an undergraduate Research Assistant (RA) in Mechanical Engineering with a background in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Fracture Mechanics, or a closely related field.

Main Responsibilities

Compile and analyze experimental data, including microstructural observations and failure surface examinations.
Prepare technical documentation, including analysis reports, literature reviews, and final project reports.
